houseparts: Enchanting garden path shot taken at “Swan House”, headquarters of the Atlanta History Center in the historic Buckhead district of Atlanta. This late 1920s estate and garden, designed by local golden-boy architect Phillip Trammel Schutze, is truly the city’s treasure. In this image we see Schutze’s handiwork perfectly framing the faint and distant image of my pal, Ambrose. Yep, that’s a statue of an elephant in the far-away mist. Ambrose is about 4 feet high and was moved to his current home after having formerly stood watch over a local tavern for decades. This is a town that takes care of it own
We all know I have huge obsessive problems with this unusual rectilinear c1916 Georgian revival style manse in Lake Forest, Illinois. The limestone detailing, the urns, the steel and glass cantilevered portico, ah, I love it all.
